Can God govern you?

1 Samuel 15:10-11

When the Israelites demanded a king, God gave them Saul, making him Israel’s very first ruler. But over time, things changed. Saul grew stubborn and obsessed with doing things his own way. It stopped being about serving God's purpose and instructions and became all about him—the power, the prestige, the wealth, and the image. The very blessing God gave him turned into an idol he worshipped. God could no longer govern the man he installed as King. God was so disappointed that He greatly regretted putting him on the throne.

It begs an honest question for all of us: What has God put in your hands? Maybe it's a role, an opportunity, financial stability, or influence. Have you gotten so wrapped up in protecting and enjoying those things that you've stopped listening to God who gave them to you?

Prayer for self:

Lord, I want to follow You and surrender my will to Yours. Teach me to listen and obey. Don’t let the gifts You’ve trusted me with become idols in my life; help me use every bit of it to honor You and serve others. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
